After a quick watershed analysis, the graduate design 5 students at FIU's LAEUD program have selected their sites for the BLOOM Studio. The studio group narrowed it down to 5 sites ranging from the urban to rural conditions. Each site has a unique ability to use natural infrastructure to impact water quality and provide socio-economic and cultural benefits in the area.
Students will be traveling to Stuart, Florida this Friday to explore their sites in depth and learn more about the communities and ecology of the area. We will visit the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, local museums, and the St.Lucie Port Lock and Dam to see firsthand the outflows pouring into the St. Lucie River.
For their site analysis, each student will be tasked with exploring a transect through their site through photo-collage, section, and model studies over the next few weeks. Through this site transect journey they will document visible transformations and invisible operations, diving deep into understanding the processes which transform site and uncovering innovative adaptive design solutions.
